The
Devonport Keas is run by a team of warranted leaders and follow
the Nationally devised syllabus for Kea Scouts. Keas provides
an introduction to the kinds of things that Cubs and Scouts
do - such as campcraft and putting up tents - but there is also
great emphasis on creative and artistic pursuits as well as
lots and lots of fun games.
The
Kea spirit is best summed up by the Kea Motto and the Kea Promise:
 |
I
share, I care, I discover, I grow
I
will try to share my fun
and help others
|
Keas is designed for young boys and girls in Years 1-3 at school
and we usually start the meeting with our Kea Parade, the Kea
Song and stomping the Kea Yell. Most meetings are a mix of games,
songs, storytelling, arts & crafts work and physical activities.
There are a number of Personal Interest
badges Keas can work towards, in addition to the badges
of the three stages of the Kea Award Scheme.
Fees
are payable at the start of term. New keas have three
visits to find out all about it before investiture, so come
along and try it out and see if you like it! Scouting is a three-way relationship between the parents, the leaders and the child and all parents are required to make a contribution to the group, whether it is attending meetings as a parent help, sewing the scarves, joining the committee, helping with fundraising etc and your role in the group is one of the things we discuss when we meet. Scouting is a voluntary organisation so please indicate on the enrolment form ways in which you may be able to help out.
